Random, Insomniac Babble
I've got FIOS cable here at the house. Pretty cool. It's got "video OnDemand." So I yelled at the screen, "I want to see 'There's A Black Guy In My Wife's Ass 8' Right F'ing NOW!" I didn't work. Fuck FIOS. The other day I thought I had met the coolest guy ever!!! His name was Neo. In fact, I thought he was The One. Then I saw his check book and noticed his last name was Sporin. I had invested all my trust in him to save humanity and his fucking name wa...s Neo Sporin. And he even had cold sores! Screw that douche bag. It's now 5:13 am and the little chat application in the lower left-hand corner of my screen indicated one person was online for chat. I clicked on it and it was Dr. Phil. Very strange since I'm not friends with Dr. Phil. Regardless, I asked... him why his wife grabs his arm and the end of every taping of his show and he said, "because the censors won't let her grab my cock." "Fair enough," I said, and he jumped offline. I've never solved more than two colors at once on a Rubik's Cube, but I've stolen a shitload of money and gotten away with it. Now THAT'S fucking genius that matters. I added my old boss as a friend here on Facebook and intentionally didn't post anything on his page just so he would write me to ask, "Why did you add me but don't post anything on my page?" My Review of Drag Me To Hell
I would be completely remiss if I didn't say something dragged me to Hell to watch all 89 minutes of it. It was typical Sam Raimi, but without the genius performance by Bruce Campbell. It was good makeup effects squandered by awful CG work and the over-the-top horror-comedy in parts simply fell short of what made the Evil Dead the cult-classic that it is. The best part of the entire movie was the creepy old woman in the parking garage and the remainder of the movie fell flat from there. Worse still, the movie hinged its entire affect on a twist ending, which I predicted two-thirds in. "Drag Me To Hell" could just as easily been called "Drag Me To The Five Dollar Movie Bin At Walmart." Even with mega hits like Spiderman on Raimi's resume, I'm afraid the bulk of his horror work is horror-comedy even when he's trying to be serious. Hopefully, Raimi will re-establish himself as a credible film force when he finishes the Evil Dead remake next year. However, his Evil Dead remake (without lead Bruce Campbell) may just be the film that puts his horror career in a coffin for good.Comments [0]

There's Something Wrong Here, MTV
As much as I respect successful people, there is something utterly disturbing to me about someone called "Lock N' Load" (on MTV Cribs) bragging about the 14" Plasma Flat Screen built into his toilet seat. I'm all for ample monetary compensation in a free enterprise society, but MTV routinely dignifies a subculture of unmerited, exorbitant wealth. There's a fine line between being able to tell someone how to spend their money and some person being able to feed a starving country with their handbag collection -- and I guess I'm crossing it. In a country that already has a deteriorating moral/ethical fiber, one would hope a channel as impressionable as MTV would either get back to airing actual music or begin to restore the relationship between dignified work and the comfortable living it can provide. This cultural shift in values has kids placing talent over education and diamond-studded chalices over framed diplomas. MTV, in this regard, has helped squander the honor in being rich. Why enlist as a soldier when you can be Soulja Boy? Why settle for a doctor's salary when you can have Dr. Dre's bank roll? Teacher? Forget it. Kick it old skool instead. These are the mental mantras of a generation being taught it's more lucrative to have guts and 15 minutes than actually rest comfortably in the laurels of paying your dues. This wasn't meant as a formal critique. I more or less engaged this rant because a man called "T-Pain" could put several thousand children through college with one of his wrist watches. "I gots a mansion in Wiscansin," T-Pain barks over a Casio backbeat. Yes, folks, he rhymed "mansion" with "Wisconsin." Any show glorifying the profit that can be generated from stylized stupidity gets put on my shit-list by default. Sorry.Comments [0]

My Review of Antichrist
*Spoiler Alert *Here's the deal. If Andres Serrano, Friedrich Neitszche, and Hermann Rorschach made a film, it would probably be a lot like Antichrist. The film definitely panders to a particular kind of cerebral audience, but should be respected by all as a celebration of the First Amendment. While much of the film's symbolism will be debated, I don't think anyone will dispute that Antichrist is not a popcorn film. No one should even go to see a movie called "Antichrist" if they're ill-prepared for something unholy or refuse to give the screenwriter's representation any artistic credence. Much like Mel Gibson's brutal depiction of Jesus' walk to Golgotha, Antichrist challenges us to take that walk ourselves by way of its sullen, decadent, and exploitative descent into madness. Lars Von Trier certainly did not make this film to win a shiny Hollywood adornment for his mantle. Antichrist doesn't cut away where other films claiming to be horrific would, but its vulgar imagery is a necessary reminder that the religious book we extrapolate joy from every Sunday has blood-soaked pages. An honest look into Judeo-Christian history would reveal far more disturbing violence than a movie that only simulates it. While some movies (i.e Paranormal Activity) make their impact by things unseen, Antichrist "nails" us with things seen. I've seen movies (i.e Salo, Cannibal Holocaust, August Underground, Caligula, etc) that were far less effective at using visual disturbance as an artistic device. Antichrist is not the kind of film that you and your date will want to talk about over a slice of pie at Denny's. Contrarily, it rehashes necessary discussion about the nature of evil and should have people running to Barnes and Noble to learn a little more about the millions of people who consequently suffered miserably under torture to make religion the cozy racket it is today. Antichrist, though some want to say is a misogynist director's demented sublimation, is perhaps a fitting reminder that sometimes bad things happen to bad people. Though the movie begins with us empathizing with a distraught woman over the loss of her son, we later realize that she was the antagonist in protagonist clothing. Her neglect, cruelty, and carnal self-indulgence incubated an unrivaled depravity and her thesis paper on religion helped her project her own self-loathing. She was coming undone -- and I was happy to see her finished.Comments [0]
